Panna Tiger Kingdom

Panna Tiger Reserve(PTR), Madhya Pradesh, one of India’s major tiger reserve is an amazing Project Tiger success story. In the 80s Panna was wiped out of tigers due to poaching and illegal hunting and trade. The Govt of India, State Govt of MP, General public of the state of MP, forest officials got together and were determined to bring back tigers to this majestic forest lands and a mythologically significant place (dating back to Mahabharata). Thanks to their tireless efforts and selfless service, the 90s till now has seen a steady increase in the tiger population ever since they relocated the first tiger from other parts of the country. Panna today boasts a healthy population of 70+ tigers and it continues to grow. Outside of tigers, there is a healthy population of the Indian leopards, jackals, sloth bears and a wide variety of local and migratory birds. The Ken river that flows through the jungle of Panna is one of the most pristine, clean and NON-polluted rivers in the country. A fine example of public, private and govt participation bearing results and success stands a great testament that with significant effort and commitment we can revive our natural habitats and thriving wildlife. Please don’t miss an opportunity to visit this magnificent landscape of Panna and relish the sheer beauty of this landscape, wildlife and nature. Presented here is a series of bold sub-adult tigers of the famous T151 mother tiger in their full glory. They are just 18 months old and have already started moving around quite a bit, a trait that is often seen with the tigers as they tend to be solo and mark their own territory.

A solo wanderer, bold and beautiful

Smelling the air, a casual look and that majestic walk

Playful, yet cautious, learning and curiosity

It was an absolute joy watching these young tigers in their habitat in the pristine forest lands of Panna. I can’t wait to get back to this Tiger country to see them in their full glory and in their own kingdoms.

Long live the tigers, and Panna!
